SWEDEN LARGE EGG FARM CULLING 1.3 MILLION CHICKENS OVER BIRD FLU DETECTION

Sweden’s biggest egg producer has reported an outbreak of H5N5 bird flu and will cull 1.3 million birds to prevent the spread of the disease.

The outbreak was identified on a farm near the town of Monsteras in the southwest of the country. Sweden’s animal health authorities announced that the outbreak was of the H5N5 strain. “Unfortunately, the disease has spread within the facility which means that a large portion of all the animals, around 1.3 million, will be culled and destroyed,” the Board of Agriculture said in a statement.
