In continuation to add value to industry, Alltech Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. had collaborated with Govt. College University-Lahore to celebrate World Fisheries Day on November 23, 2020. The objective of this event was to create awareness and educate consumer, farmers and related human resource in aquaculture supply chain.

Alltech Pakistan launched different innovative ideas for educating people about importance of fish as protein and as a business which includes fish facts cards in local language (Urdu), 60s Aqua Indepth videos and  a seminar to gather industry-academia under one roof to emphasize on the need of  research and role of industry-academia partnership in this regard.

Professionals from industry & Academia, joined the awareness walk. Many have joined through zoom link too. Speakers have emphasized on growing fisheries industry on scientific grounds, saying that the country has a great potential for fish farming. Pakistan Fisheries Society headquarters at Government College University campus had also been inaugurated on the same day. The seminar was opened by Dr. M. Ayub, President Fisheries

Society, he gave a brief introduction of aquaculture outlook in Pakistan. Presenters discussed the challenges at hatchery, Feed, farm and processing level, quality assurance, marketing and human resource. Dr. Shahzad Naveed Jadoon, CEO Alltech Pakistan had talked about Industry-academia partnership (IAP) in aquaculture and how this partnership can transform the challenges into opportunities. He also emphasized on HR development for this industry as Future professional will possess a whole NEW skill set. He said we need to start working today and redefine our education system and the curriculum and train the HR on Future professional needs. He added that at this stage industry demands need based research and trained HR. For both of this, academia can serve as an excellent Resource House.

Dr. Jadoon explained to audience that Alltech believe working in collaborations will bring innovations and improvements in the aqua industry.  He shared Alltech programs (ABCD- Agribusiness Coaching and Development, ABRS- Aqua Business and Research School, AgroVoice- Voice of Everyone, Career development program, Alltech Inventor, and Aqua value Creation model)   and also offered support in related areas. He wrapped his presentation stating that fish is future protein and it’s our responsibility to create the awareness, highlight the opportunities in Aqua Industry and develop the HR. Prof. Dr. Naeem khan VC, University of Baltistan Skardu floated the idea of Center of Excellency in GC University Lahore where all the aqua professionals can work in synergy. Also, he added that we need to develop a master plan of how universities and private sector can collaborate. Worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi supported the proposed idea. He said that the industry, academia, investor and govt. need to work together and transform it into research oriented industry. Dr. Atif Yaqub, Chairperson Zoology dept. GCU concluded the session stating that aquaculture is growing in Pakistan and the awareness through World Fisheries Day also increasing. He congratulated everyone and appreciated their active participation.
