Prairie Aquatech has been selected as one of the three finalists for Global Aquaculture Alliance’s annual Global Aquaculture Award.
A South Dakota company and short for “microbially enhanced protein”, “Our technology can handle many plant proteins like soybean meal, our process increase the protein content and also make it more digestible.” said CEO Mark Luecke.
Soybean meal is fermented with naturally occurring microbes using sugar as feedstock and producing end product 70% protein. Trials with salmonid, rainbow trout showed success and also highlighted additional effect of Me-Pro in reducing phosphorus discharge from fish waste. The company will present at GAA’s upcoming virtual GOAL 2020 conference, on 6-8 October. GOAL attendees will vote to select the winner.
